Malwarebytes Download It’s stable in Windows 10: with version 3.0, some users (including us) encountered apparently random blue-screen errors in Windows 10 when we disabled most or all of the active scanning features of Malwarebytes Download. As a result, there wasn’t anything to differentiate the paid version from the free edition. However, we may say that we did not see any BSODs in Windows 10 during our 3.2 check.
This was the only very major problem we saw in version 3.0, and fixing it brings back malwarebytes to “recommended” status.
The scanning engine remains of high quality: during our tests, the app’s malware scanner picked up some files and the registry entry left over from the apparently incomplete uninstall of a third-party driver management utility that, according to Malwarebytes, might have bundled a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Malwarebytes used to put these files in quarantine instead of deleting them. In addition, this is the favored reflex, because PUPs are not inherently dangerous, and removing them will remove the system they came with.
Restricted testing by independent laboratories: The company reports that the typical “zero-day” malware (a form that is too fresh for accurate detection / removal) has only a 55% detection rate, which may make the antimalware software look worse than it does when it is exposed to zero-day infections during testing.
Therefore, Malwarebytes does not apply its applications to the complete gauntlets offered by AV-Test and AV-Comparatives, the testing of which takes particular note of zero-day protection.
