#HOW TO #WIN #USA 2020 #PRESIDENTIAL #ELECTION IN 10 #POINTS : Ten Simple Points to understand the complex USA Voting System and Electoral College (#By #Consultant #Daaru)
In January 2021,the President Elect for United States of America will take the oat of office. However many have always found the United States Electoral process very fascinating especially because it is highly possible for a candidate to win majority vote but still loose the election legitimately. It happened in 2016 between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
The arguments about the merits or demerits of this system is a subject for another days discussion. This article
provide a simplified 10 points for you to understand how the contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden will be won. You just can’t get it any simple than this.
#ONE)The President of USA will get selected finally in December by the Electoral College and not by the November popular vote directly. Many people may not not be aware of this fact.
#TWO)Tomorrow, November 3rd Marks the Election Day for registered voters. However what the people vote for is not their presidential candidates directly but rather they help to elect a group of people call the ELECTORS who will later make up the Electoral College to vote and decide who actually should become the President on behalf of the people.
#THREE) Each state has a pre-determined varied number of Electoral Votes base on Population Census. The number of electors per state is equal to the number of the state’s delegates in the US congress (which is the total number of members of House of Representatives and senators for each state)
#FOUR) The total number of electors that make the Electoral College is 538 and so a presidential candidate need at least 270 votes to be president
#FIVE) Before the election each party will select its group of potential electors for each state. After the election, the candidate with majority vote in most states in USA will have all the electoral votes for the state and therefore have his or electors in the Electoral College.
#SIX) What it means is that even if a candidate wins by just a margin of 51% vote in a state: it has all the electoral votes that will matter in the final selection of the president later. And the loser with 49% does not have even a single electoral votes to determine the final president .Because of this it is actually possible for the candidate with the least popular vote in tomorrow’s election to end up winning more of the electoral votes (depending upon which states he or she wins) and become the president of United States of America as it happens with George Bush in the year 2000 and Donald Trump in 2016. In few states the distribution of electors is done by proportion of popular votes obtain)
#SEVEN) These members of the Electoral College are expected to cast their ballot in December as per the popular vote in their state; but may behave otherwise.
#EIGHT) After the presidential election, the governor of a state prepares Certificates of Ascertainment for the election and make final decisions in any controversies over the appointment of their electors by December 13, (at least six days before the meeting of the Electors.)
#NINE) In December, The Electors meet in their state and vote for President and Vice President on separate ballots. And the votes are sent to president of senate, Secretary of senate, the archivist and presiding judge in each state by December 28, 2020
#TEN) JANUARY 6, 2021, The Congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes. The Vice President, as President of the Senate, presides over the count and announces the results of the Electoral College vote. The President of the Senate then declares which persons, if any, have been elected President and Vice President of the United States.
