Ghana Starlets eliminated after 1-3 defeat to Ivory Coast in WAFU U-17 Cup of Nations tournament
Ghana has been eliminated from the ongoing WAFU U-17 Cup of Nations in Togo after a 1-3 defeat to Ivory Coast.
The Black Starlets failed to secure a ticket to the semi-finals of the competition after the heavy defeat on Tuesday afternoon.
Togolese referee Vicentia Eyonam Amedome had a vary bad day by denying Ghana three clear penalties leading to the 1:3 defeat this afternoon.
Arafat Doumbia broke the virginity of the game by scoring in the early minutes for the Ivorians.
Ghana had a penalty in the 32nd minute after the attacker was brought down in the penalty box by the Ivorian defender but referee Vicentia Eyonam Amedome pretended not to have seen the late challenge by the Ivorian defender.
In just four minutes after the recess, Arafat Doumbia made it 0:2 for Ivory Coast but Ghana pulled the consolation few minutes after.
The consolation didn’t deter the Ivorians for penetrating into the defence of Ghana with Arafat Doumbia his third goal from the spot.
Ivory Coast have qualified to the semi-finals of the competition alongside Nigeria from the Group B.
