Roald Dahl’s beloved tale Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has delighted audiences young and old, all over the world. And now the hit touring production is coming to Perth… for the first time EVER!
Young Charlie Bucket dreams of meeting Willy Wonka, the mysterious world-renowned candy maker. When news breaks that his idol is opening the gates of his factory to a lucky few, Charlie is desperate to get his hands on a life-changing golden ticket. Journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination with a comically curious assortment of winners – Charlie Bucket, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregard and Mike Teavee. From chocolate waterfalls to furry lollypops, Wonka’s creations come to life in a flurry of colour and confection. This sweet spectacle features a brand new toe-tapping and ear-tickling score from the songwriters of Hairspray, plus all of your favourite songs from the original film including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.

Running times are approximate and may be subject to change. The production design includes over 2 million LED lights used for special effects that may be unsuitable for anyone sensitive to lighting. There is also smoke haze on occasion. Special effects surrounding the demise of each golden ticket winner are essential to the plot and true to the dark themes written by Roald Dahl. Parental guidance is recommended. Children under the age of 2 years are admitted free, but must be seated on the carer’s lap for the duration of the performance. A babes in arms ticket will be required upon entry. In the event of your infant causing a disturbance, we ask that you temporarily remove the infant from the auditorium until they are settled.

Charlie and the chocolate factory musical
Stephen Anderson as Willy Wonka
Stephen is delighted to be re-joining the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, having previously played Mr. Salt in the premiere Sydney and Melbourne seasons.
Graduating from NIDA in 2006, he recently played Father Alex in Mamma Mia! and was an original cast member of the Australian and New Zealand tour of Matilda the Musical, playing Sergei.
Stephen has worked extensively with Tall Stories and CDP Theatre Producers, including the original Australian productions of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom. On television, Stephen has appeared in Whitlam: The Power and the Passion.
Stephen wrote and directed My Vagabond Boat (Adelaide Cabaret Festival) and Don’t Hate Us Because We’re Good (Melbourne Fringe Festival). In 2014 he was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award: Judith Johnson Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical for his role in Falsettos.

Robert Grubb as Grandpa Joe
Robert Grubb is well known from his extensive work within Australian theatre, film and television. Now a grandpa himself, Robert is thrilled to play Grandpa Joe.
Robert was most recently seen in Billy Elliot as George, the boxing coach. He was awarded the Helpmann Award for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as Pop in We Will Rock You. He was also nominated for Helpmann Awards as Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Bob in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Robert’s film credits include Waiting at the Royal, Paradise Road, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Gallipoli. One of his most memorable roles was Dr Geoff Standish in the popular TV series The Flying Doctors.
Other TV credits include Neighbours, McLeod’s Daughters, All Saints, Offspring, and Seachange.

Lucy Maunder as Mrs Bucket
Lucy is thrilled to be reprising the role of Mrs Bucket, for which she was nominated for a 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Since graduating from WAAPA in 2006, Lucy has cemented her reputation as one of Australia’s leading ladies, touring the country and the world in many critically acclaimed productions.
Recent credit highlights include Alison Bechdel in Fun Home, Catherine in Pippin, Cynthia Weil in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Miss Honey in Matilda The Musical.
Her one woman show Irving Berlin: Songs in the Key of Black has toured Australia to rave reviews at venues such as Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Perth’s own His Majesty’s Theatre. Her album featuring arrangements and musical direction by Daniel Edmonds is available on all streaming platforms.
