Nigerian police say they have arrested Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyar along with four other officers on suspicion of drug dealing. A statement issued by the military on Monday evening said the men had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime and misconduct.

The announcement comes hours after the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it was looking for a deputy police officer on suspicion of drug dealing. DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the arrests were made following a tip-off from the NDLEA.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the Inspector General of Police had already ordered a major internal investigation, and that Abba Kyari was found to be involved in collusion with other police and anti-drug officers. drug trafficking in possession of cocaine seized at Enugu airport.
Abba Kyari and other suspects have already been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation. A police statement said plans were already underway to discipline the alleged police officers locally.
